Sabinsa’s Patent Expertise Recognized for Fifth Consecutive Year
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) recently hosted its Annual Summit on Technology, IP & Industry-Academia Partnership in New Delhi, where industry leaders, including Sabinsa’s Global CEO & Managing Director Shaheen Majeed, gathered with innovators and academia to discuss the future of Intellectual Property in India.
The CII is a leading industry group supporting India’s competitiveness in the global arena, while also fostering sustainable growth. CII’s initiatives span a wide range of sectors, driving innovation, economic development, and responsible industry practices. The CII National Committee on IP, for which Shaheen serves as vice-chair, plays an instrumental role in recognizing and rewarding innovation.
Shaheen participated as a leadership panelist in the Session on “Shaping the Decade: India’s Future through Technology, IP, and Industry-Academia Leadership.” During the session, he provided insights on how India’s IP ecosystem can drive technological advancement and foster vital partnerships between industry and academia. He highlighted the significance of building a robust research environment and the role of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) in bridging the gaps within India’s R&D framework.
In his presentation, Shaheen focused on the critical role of IP in fostering innovation and driving economic growth. Drawing from the example of the U.S. Bayh-Dole Act, he discussed the transformative impact of academic-industrial collaboration on commercializing research and creating successful innovations.
Shaheen, alongside other thought leaders, discussed key priorities such as incentivizing talent, ensuring academia remains at the forefront of cutting-edge research, and fostering a thriving innovation ecosystem in India.
In his closing remarks, Shaheen called for a greater emphasis on Ph.D. programs that address societal problems and advocated for increased industry funding for research, particularly for doctoral students. He urged for stronger partnerships between government, academia, and industry to strengthen India’s R&D capabilities as the nation enters a transformative decade.
Sabinsa was recognized for the fifth time by CII National IP Awards, which celebrate the achievements of Indian businesses and individuals in IP, highlighting their critical contributions to advancing technology, research, and development. Sami-Sabinsa was awarded as the 1st Runner-up in the "Best Patents Portfolio" Life Sciences category at the 2024 IP Awards. This marks another significant achievement for Sabinsa, continuing a streak of success in the IP awards, having won in the SME (Life Sciences/Pharma) category for four consecutive years. In 2023, they received accolades for both the Best Patent and Best Trademark Portfolio, while in 2022, they were honored for the Best Patent Portfolio. Their earlier recognition in 2021 and 2020 included wins for Best Trademark Portfolio and both Best Patent and Trademark Portfolios, respectively. The consistent recognition of Sabinsa’s innovative approach underscores its commitment to advancing intellectual property in India and globally.
The event also included Mr. Shaheen in his role as vice-chair of the CII National Committee on IP, presenting awards to the other recipients in various categories.
